Derek is a world renowned molecular biologist and previously held senior positions at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute and was a lab head at the National Institute for Medical Research. He has over 100 scientific publications, 20 patents and a PhD from the California Institute of Technology. In 1999 Derek  co-founded TwistDX, which was acquired by Alere and is now an active subsidiary of Abbott.
